Continuing the journey

I thought about swapping out “journey” in the title for the “grind” instead but I decided against it. Since that implies life is a grind.

Work is good. Setting more reasonable expectations and having a little bit more room to breathe again. It makes sense to work this hard for a great comp package. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if we should change our company culture and external perception a little bit. Uber is definitely a great company changing the world, but the way we treat other companies is a little saddening at times. We should be nicer to our employees, foster internal growth and talent, and not speak so poorly of other companies. Either way, I still like Uber more than the other choices FB, Google, Snapchat, etc. so I’ll continue here and keep learning. Career is taking up enough of my life as is, so I’ll focus on other parts of my life with the rest of this blog.

Friendships are getting hard to maintain. Honestly. Being in a top income bracket is great for dating, because you can take people out to nice dinners. Bring them to nice festivals and events, take them to travel. But it really doesn’t help with friends. You might end up developing a certain sense of entitlement (at least I did). Scenarios like: I’m working and making money, you’re accumulating debt to become a doctor to … still make less than what I’m making now. But not everyone can be a software engineer, and we need every other profession to function properly as a society. So shrug. Investments are interesting, but everyone is too busy stressing about their own work or school or other thing to care about how rich you are.

I also question how much of friendships should be based upon mutual interests and hobbies. It feels rather limiting to only befriend people who share the same perspective on life as you do or enjoy the same things you do. Nevertheless, it has been proven that sharing common ground is a great way to connect and I will continue to look in the fields I’m interested in to make more friends. I’ll also try to understand better the life of my other friends and stay open minded. It should be okay to learn about things that you don’t know anything about and try to put yourself in other people’s shoes.

Family is okay. Dad is still mega rich. Boring. Mom is still way too up-righteous for me. Also boring. But they are nice and brought me in this world extremely privileged. And allowed me to focus on my thoughts on stuff other than money. So awesome. Still appreciative of everything they’ve done for me and knowing the fact that they’ll always be there for me in case I completely mess everything up.

I think I’m seeking the next rollercoaster now. Reading books and doing a great job at career is fine and fun, but I want to create my own path and live outside of my safe/comfort zone for a while. We’ll see. I think I already do this on the dating side where I try to mingle with more types of people – but I should honestly apply this more to the rest of my life as well. Whether it be start a side project, collaborate with others, try new hobbies and activities, etc.

Good thing about my physical progress is that I’m now back in shape. Feels like 12-13% body fat, and I can continue getting more fit but there really is no strong need anymore other than to keep dopamine levels high. I’m more fit than most people I see now so I feel there’s anything left to prove in this aspect.

I’m going to travel more in the upcoming weeks. Try to plan out every weekend to go somewhere else, try to keep more contacts around America and try not to burn so many bridges with my self-centeredness and selfishness. I should also practice writing more, I do answer aspiring people’s questions on Quora so that’s fun. Okay, that’s about it for this post. Bye guys :).
